About this project
GOTR Council: Girls on the Run South Louisiana
Project Created on: 09/20/2016
Project Type: SoleMates
I am running a half marathon during the Big Easy Running Festival hosted by Smoothie King in support of Girls on the Run - South Louisiana. Girls on the Run (GOTR) was founded in Charlotte, NC and is dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential.
The 10 week curriculum uses exercise and dynamic conversations that empower young girls to prevent at-risk behaviors later. Running is used to motivate, promote fitness and build confidence through the program's culminating 5K event. I am a volunteer running buddy for pacing and have registered to coach my own East Baton Rouge Parish team next Spring.
Until then, I joined a charity running program, SoleMates, to raise money for Girls on the Run - South Louisiana during my training. The race I am training for is in New Orleans on November 19th. Last year, over 70 elementary and middle schools in my region had around 1800 girls register. Only half received much needed financial assistance to participate.
My personal fundraising goal is to raise $350. I plan to contribute $1 for every mile I run on Saturdays until my race day. Any contribution that you make through my SoleMates campaign will be appreciated. Your contribution could be used to support a participating girl as follows:
Add me as a friend on MapMyRun so you can monitor my training and join my Girl on the Run Challenge that begins October 2nd. For more information on GOTR visit http://www.girlsontherunsola.org or contact me at email@example.com. Thank you so very much for your generosity.
