About this project
GOTR Council: Girls on the Run New Jersey East
Project Created on: 10/19/2016
Project Type: Girl Power
The Montessori Children's Academy is proud to support Girls on the Run New Jersey East for its 2016-2017 charitable initiative. As part of our Montessori Peace Curriculum, The Montessori Children’s Academy educates its students about the many ways they can make a positive difference in the world. By selecting an organization to sponsor each year, The Montessori Children’s Academy students and families work together to promote positive change in our community and beyond. Through these initiatives, our MCA students gain empathy for others, expand their horizons, and become empowered to act as contributing members of society. We look forward to having the MCA community join Girls on the Run's efforts to promote positive outcomes for girls, especially for girls in communities in need. We invite our MCA families to consider making a donation to GOTR to help us to reach our goal of raising $5,000, allowing us to sponsor at least 20 girls in underserved areas of NJ. Learn more about MCA at www.themontessorichildrensacademy.com.
Girls on the Run is a nonprofit youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. The program uses running as a tool to promote physical, social and emotional growth, exploring issues important to pre-adolescent girls such as valuing your unique gifts, dealing with gossip and bullying, working as a team, and performing a community impact project. Volunteer coaches work with the girls to help them understand lesson topics and train for the end of season 5K run, which helps girls to see that they are able to work hard and accomplish something of great challenge and significance. The GOTR curriculum empowers girls to successfully navigate life experiences and encourages a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness. Learn more about GOTR at www.girlsontherunnj.org.
In addition to monetary contributions, families may participate in our efforts by donating new or gently used athletic wear for the participants ages 8-13 who are involved in the GOTR program. A donation box for these items will be placed by the front office of each campus. Items such as sneakers, shorts, and t-shirts are welcome and appreciated.
