About this project
GOTR Council: Girls on the Run Central Illinois
Project Created on: 06/20/2017
Project Type: Celebrations
When I started at Girls on the Run two years ago, I couldn’t have imagined how much this organization would impact my life. I mean… it's for little kids, right?! Wrong. For every girl we inspire to joyful, healthy and confident, we are also changing the lives of everyone around her.
As the Program Manager, I see the impact of our organization on a large scale through the letters the girls write us to parent phone calls to emails from coaches to surveys and data. As a Coach, I have been able to see the true impact of the program on individual girls.
- Girls who will grow up to be amazing women.
- Girls who know their value and the value of others around them.
- Girls who can stand up for themselves and others.
- Girls who understand the power of giving back.
- Girls who will change the world for the better.
The changes we see in just ten short weeks is amazing, but as these girls come back season after season, you begin to realize the lasting impact.
Last year was one of the hardest/weirdest years of my life so far. But Girls on the Run kept me going. It gave me a purpose and a reason to get up in the morning even when I wanted to stay in bed all day. So how exactly has this program for young girls impacted me at the age of [almost] 31? It taught me how to use my words when I was terrified, that I'm allowed to choose my friends, the power of positivity and assuming positive intent and to stop being so hard on myself. Most importantly, it taught me to open my heart again. Girls on the Run has also connected me with the most incredible people and given me amazing friendships that I will not forget.
So why do you need to know all of this? I have made it my mission to make 2017 a great year which also includes my 31st birthday. Instead of gifts and cards, I want to give back to the organization and girls I love. I set a goal of raising $310 ($10 for each of my 31 years on this awesome planet) before my birthday on July 12th. The money will go towards scholarships for girls on my beloved community teams (YMCA & Southwind Park) next season. By giving to GOTR, you will make my 31st birthday the best yet!
Thanks in advance and I am SO lucky to have all of you in my life. :-)
